Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy

MBCT online

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) combines meditative practices, elements from Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and attitudes based on the cultivation of mindfulness. This online program is designed to give relief from feelings of distress and was initially developed for people who have had two or more episodes of depression.

You will learn more about what characterizes mood disorders and receive guidance that supports new ways of responding to the ups and downs of everyday living. The therapy aims to help you increase awareness in order to be more present, realize that you are not your thoughts and be kinder to yourself. You will also learn to recognize warning signs of relapse earlier, before stress, depression or anxiety become too overwhelming.

When you register, we will schedule a half hour assessment with one of us to ensure that participation in the course is right for you at this time. If you are currently experiencing severe and acute psychological and/or physical issues such as recent grief, acute depression, substance misuse or psychosis we do not recommend MBCT at this time. We would be happy to discuss individual exceptions to this general recommendation.

The habit of spending nearly every waking moment lost in thought leaves us at the mercy of whatever our thoughts happen to be. Meditation is a way of breaking this spell.
